Montreal police reported today an intensive search for a man they described as the leader of a gang of young toughs who have chosen Nazi symbols as their emblem after five alleged members were arrested.
Detectives of the Criminal Investigation Bureau made lightning raids on the homes of members and found in one of them a desk with a large swastika painted on it. In the desk, they said, they found a copy of Hitler’s “Mein Kampf, ” crudely-made swastika armbands and similar material.
Two of the five suspects were arraigned in Criminal Court. The others, all 17-year-olds, were held for Juvenile Court. Richard Jones, 20 and Pasquale Pietrinferno, 19, were charged with conspiracy to construct explosive devices when they appeared before Judge Jean Tellier. The judge ordered them held without bail for preliminary hearing tomorrow.
The charges stemmed from an incident at a Montreal sports center on January 24. A youth throw a crude incendiary bomb into the hall during a teenage dance. Police discounted reports that the gang might have as many as 100 members, but estimated that there were only about a dozen members.
