Allya Seen As Best Answer to Arab, Soviet Enmity Toward Israel

The counsellor to the permanent mission of Israel to the United Nations, told more than 500 persons at an Aliya Conference of the Zionist Organization of America yesterday that the best answer to the menace of Arab enmity and their Soviet supporters is the ingathering of Jews from all parts of the world. Lt. Col. Giora Navon also told the ZOA gathering that Americans have already had a share in creating Israeli society and that American aliya influences Israeli society. He cited Americans’ contributions to the development of sciences in Israeli institutions of higher learning and American influence in kibbutzim toward a good life style. Also addressing the conference was former ZOA leader Louis Sitkoff who emigrated to Israel and who spoke on his adjustment to the country during the past nine years. Declaring that Americans who come to Israel were “masters of their own destiny,” he added that American aliya this year is anticipated to be about 10,000, In 1970, he said, it was 9,400 Americans who settled in Israel.
