A resolution recently adopted by the Columbia University Senate requests university officials to avoid conflicts between all Jewish holidays and academic affairs such as examinations, registration and convocations, and it requires that adequate alternative arrangements be made by the university in the event that unavoidable conflicts arise. But, contrary to a report in yesterday’s issue of the Daily News Bulletin, classes may still be scheduled on Jewish religious holidays, though students missing classes on such days will not be penalized and instructors will be allowed to re-schedule classes that interfere with their observance of the holidays.
