Ten years after it was proposed, construction is beginning on Kiryat Canada, a housing complex in the sea coast town of Netanya in Israel which is being financed by Canadian Zionists.
Hy Bessin, an Ottawa financier and president of the Zionist Federation of Canada, told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that an independent group of Canadian Zionists purchased 65 acres of land along Netanya’s coast. Bessin said that several hotels with a capacity of some 1000 rooms and 1600 apartments and villas will be completed in the next year, marking the first stage of construction. He said the area will become the “Israeli counter-Part of the French Riviera.”
On Sept. 18, the Canadian Zionists will pay IL 15 million to the Land Administration to finalize the deal. Bessin said, “We aim to sell seven out of nine units to olim from the Western world or to people wishing to buy a second home. We estimate that our units due to the economy of manpower and material for such an important project will run 20 percent below the current prices while having all the advantages of western world construction.”
Egypt’s Minister of Electric Power, Ahmed Sultan Ismail is to have talks in Bonn Aug. 17 with senior officials of the West German Ministry for Economic Cooperation. It will be the first visit to West Germany by an Egyptian minister since the resumption of diplomatic relations last year.
