The National Conference on Soviet Jewry has learned from sources in the Soviet Union that a hunger strike is scheduled for Friday to protest against the arrests yesterday in Moscow and to mark the sixth anniversary of the first Leningrad trials. The location and names have not been announced out of fear of reprisals.

The sources confirmed that more that 100 Soviet Jews are presently under house arrest across the Soviet Union for “alleged activities” with yesterday’s symposium on Jewish culture. It was also reported that long-term refusenik Vladimir Slepak has not been allowed to see visitors, unlike others under house arrest, and more than 200 documents have been confiscated by Soviet secret police from his apartment.
