Danes cleared of financing terror

Two members of a Danish Palestinian foundation who sponsored a group associated with Hamas were cleared of funding terrorism. The Associated Press reported that Rachid Issa, chairman of the Al Aqsa Foundation in Denmark, and his deputy, Ahmad Suleiman, were charged in December 2005 for using the foundation to transfer some $61,000 in 2002 to the Islamic Charitable Society and the World Assembly of Muslim Youth, which Danish prosecutors claimed is part of Hamas. Though Issa and Suleiman were relieved of their duties at the foundation, the Copenhagen City Court ruled there was no proof that the money ended up going to Hamas. It was unclear whether Danish prosecutors would appeal the decision. Both men pleaded innocent.
