An admitted terrorist involved in attacks against Israel was sent to a U.S. detention camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The U.S. Justice Department said Monday that Abdul Malik, who allegedly was involved with al-Qaida when he came into U.S. custody, was the first person transferred to Guantanamo Bay since September 2004. Malik has admitted to participating in a 2002 attack on an Israeli-owned hotel in Mombasa, Kenya, which killed 15 people and injured 80, as well as a near-simultaneous attempt to shoot down an Israeli civilian plane carrying 271 passengers near Mombasa. The Justice Department said Malik will undergo a combatant status review tribunal where he can challenge the evidence levied against him, which labels him an enemy combatant.
