No ‘Sex’ in Jerusalem

Outdoor advertising for the movie “Sex and the City” has been banned in Jerusalem and Petach Tikvah.

Municipal leaders’ objections to the advertisement stem from the name of the movie, based on a popular television series, Israeli media reported. The two cities have large ultra-Orthodox populations.

Posters for movies have been altered in the past to cover up exposed parts of the body or to separate males and females from each other, but this is the first time that the word “sex” has appeared on a movie advertisement.

The billboard company, Maximedia, said it is concerned that its posters will be defaced if they post them over municipal objections. The company also told Y-Net it suggested that the film distributor use three dots in place of the word sex.

The posters will appear in other cities throughout Israel.
