Maine Labor Council Condemns Soviet Discriminations Against Jews

BANGOR, Maine, Jul. 7 (JTA) –

A resolution urging an end to the "religious and cultural restrictions and deprivations" on Soviet Jewry by Soviet authorities was approved by delegates to the Maine State Federated Labor Council convention at the request of the Jewish Labor Committee.

The resolution also urged the United States Government "to pursue these violations of human rights vigorously through various diplomatic channels and within the United Nations. " The resolution called attention to the situation of the Jews in Russia and noted that the AFL-CIO unit was joining many labor, religious and civic leaders "in condemning the religious and cultural oppression of Soviet Jewry."
