Nat Lewin to Defend Hershkovitz in Trial of Jdl Officials

WASHINGTON, Jun. 20 (JTA) –

Nat Lewin, a former State Department official and Assistant Solicitor General in the Johnson Administration, will defend Avraham Hershkovitz in the trial of Jewish Defense League officials on conspiracy to violate gun control charges. Lewin, who is on the executive board of the National Jewish Commission on Law and Public Affairs (COLPA), will take the Hershkovitz case as a private lawyer not as a member of COLPA. Hershkovitz is presently serving a five-year sentence for using a false passport. The maximum sentence for the conspiracy charge is $10,000 or 10 years in jail or both.
