Figures dealing with the condition of Jewish population in the Ukraine, and revealing an appalling death rate and low birth rate have been received by the Oze (Association for the Improvement of the Health of the Jewish Population).
During the first half of the year 1922 the rate of mortality was 83.5 per thousand, it is shown. In the second half of the year the rate of mortality was double the birth rate. In Elizabethgrad the rate of mortality in 1922 among the Jews was 106 per thousand, and among the non-Jews 91 per thousand. Similar figures are given from Kherson. Together with the rise in the rate of mortality, there was a marked reduction in the birth rate.
