Differences between Dictator von Kahr and the Fascist leader Hitler which are growing increasingly acute are becoming a real menace to the Jews of Bavaria. Dictator von Kahr is inflicting greater hardships on the Jews in order to disprove the national socialists’ charge that he is friendly to the Jews.
Von Kahr is accused of having betrayed Hitler, and anyone who is courageous enough to speak a word in favor of the Jew and against oppression is classed as a Jewish slave. Even Cardinal Faulhaber, who recently deplored the attacks on Jews, has not escaped this classification at the hands of the national socialists. “Down with Rome, down with the Jews” are among the war cries of the National Socialist followers of Hitler.
Apparently to deny these strictures von Kahr’s administration is dealing more harshly than ever with the Jewish deportees. The Bavarian finance minister has sequestered the property of the exiled Jews-Demanding payment of taxes from the deportees, it has confiscated their wealth to the past penny until the expelled have had to appeal to Jewish institutions to transport their furniture to their new home in exile.
There are many evidences of official anti-Semitism in Munich, not the least of which is von Kahr’s latest announcement that the expulsions will be continued.
