A bill aimed at the activities of the Ku Klux Klan was among the first introduced at the opening of the Alabama state legislature.
The measure proposes to take from Attorney General McCall, alleged member of the Klan, all power except that given him by the Constitution of the State. It is also proposed to put a limit to future appropriations for his office. Recently the Attorney General is said to have attempted to remove a circuit judge and replace him with a judge who is known to be a member of the Klan. McCall was severely criticized by a grand jury for this. It is further alleged that he attempted to replace the circuit solicitors of Montgomery circuit, before the grand jury recently, with Klan members who are Montgomery attorneys.
It is also charged that Gov. Bibb Graves, reputed to have been elected by the Klan, has appointed a number of Klan leaders to political offices.
