Due to the critical situation now prevailing in Tientsin, many young Jews have enrolled as volunteers in the foreign town militia.

It was learned that many of the Monarchist Russians are serving in the Chinese army. The enrollment of the Jewish group in the town militia was viewed as a precautionary measure to prevent any anti-Jewish excesses which may be started by the Czarists. In such case the militia will act as a self-defense body.
