A large number of rabbis in various cities and towns in Soviet Russia suffer dire poverty, facing starvation, states an appeal of Russian rabbis published in the local organ of the Orthodox Jewish world organization, Agudath Israel.

The position of the rabbis is becoming increasingly difficult since food prices have risen during the past Summer. The appeal states that it is necessary that European Jews create a committee for the relies of the Russian rabbis and their families. The supplying of artisans tools and machines to enable members of the rabbis families to gain a Livelihood is mentioned as a possible method of help.
