Prof. Albert Abraham Michelson of the University of Chicago and Dr. Robert Andrews Millikan of the Institute of California, formerly a pupil of Dr. Michelson, were awarded gold medals by the Society of Arts and Sciences, for their achievements in science.

The awards were made at a dinner at the Biltmore Hotel, New York, Friday night. Dr. Millikan in his address spoke on “Michelson’s Economic Value.” To him, he said, he owed much of his own success in scientific research work. He attributed to Dr. Michelson the development of method and discoveries which are fundamental in the science of today and tomorrow. Prof. Michelson spoke briefly, declaring that he had sought the velocity of light for the “pure fun and love of it.”
