A drastic ordinance was announced today by the Zik and the Council of Commissars which will affect thousands of Jewish families in Soviet Russia, particularly in the Ukraine.

The ordinance prohibits the purchase and sale for profits of food products and other articles designed for mass consumption.

Penalty for breaking the law is a minimum sentence of five years imprisonment.

The ordinance withdraws the livelihood of numerous Jews residing in the villages who up until now, under semi-legal sanction, have carried products from the village to the town. This form of trading was developed in the Ukraine in particular, by Jewish members of the declassed groups.
