A last minute reversal of the decision to prohibit the reception arranged for Sholom Schwartzbard enabled him to carry out the program arranged for him and to address the meeting in his honor.

The Toronto police commission reversed its previous decision after a strong Jewish deputation headed by E. F. Singer, Jewish member of the Canadian Parliament, appeared before the commission and reviewed in detail the complete history of the Schwarzbard-Petlura case.

Strong cordons of police were posted around the Labor Lyceum, where Schwartzbard spoke. The meeting was jammed with Toronto Jews, apparently unafraid of the threats made by local Ukrainian nationalists, who had threatened bloodshed if Schwartzbard was permitted to speak. The meeting was uneventful with no disturbances of any kind.
