Anti-jewish Measures in Rumania Cause Heavy Withdrawals of Bank Deposits

The anti-Jewish policy of the new Rumanian Government, though not yet entirely realized, is already beginning to have its effect on the general financial and economic position of the country. Unprecedented heavy withdrawals are being made from the banks not only by Jews, but by non-Jews, and non-Jewish industrialists are beginning to complain that sales are declining as a result of the fear of Jewish merchants to invest further capital in the conduct of their businesses.

It is estimated that at least four thousand million lei have been withdrawn from 138 banks. A large proportion of these withdrawals were made by non-Jews worried over the safety of the banks due to the uncertainty of the situation.
