One hundred and eighty German Jewish refugees now en route from Rotterdam, Netherlands, to Valparaiso, Chile, via Cadiz, Spain, will be admitted to the South American Republic “if we believe they will make good citizens,” an attache of the Chilean Embassy said today.
The case of each refugee seeking entrance to Chile will be judged individually, the Embassy said. Included in the 180, who are aboard the steamship Batavier III, are merchants, craftsmen, farmers and their wives and children. Chile has made no conditions regarding entry of professional men.
