The British Parliament was today assured that the friends of the ex-Mufti of Jerusalem are being watched “as carefully as we can” in order to prevent possible intrigues “in areas which are dependent upon Great Britain for security.”
The assurance was given in Commons by Richard K. Law, under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, replying to a number of questions concerning the ex-Mufti who is now in Germany helping the Nazis with their anti-British propaganda in the Moslem countries.
Noel Baker, Laborite, asked whether the associates of the ex-Mufti are treated as Axis agents. Geoffrey Manders, Conservative, wanted to know why the ex-Mufti succeeded in escaping from British hands. Replying to these questions, Law said that “Foreign Secretary Eden has no further statement to make concerning the Mufti.”
