All teachers in the Jewish school system in Palestine went on strike today demanding an adjustment in their wages to meet the higher cost of living which has risen to three times the pre-war level.
Addressing a press conference in Tel Aviv today, representatives of the Labor Department recently established by the Palestine Government announced that this department will remain in existence even after the war is over. It will continue to study the various labor problems in the country and will endeavor to improve relations between employers and employees and to create a central labor exchange system.
The Government officials emphasized that it is not the intention of the Palestine Administration to interfere with the achievements of the existing labor organizations or with the system of collective agreements. The government, however, will not allow the monopolization of work in the country by any one group, they added. They disclosed that post-war labor legislation is already being prepared by the Labor Department.
