Military police clamped down a rigid curfew on the southern section of Tel Aviv at 5 a.m. today. Raiding parties searched houses and apartments and took their occupants to police stations for investigation.
In Jerusalem it was announced that all police cars in the country will be equipped with radio apparatus enabling them to be in direct contact with headquarters at all times. The system was set up in order to cope more efficiently with terrorist outbreaks and robberies. The Jerusalem police have already installed such equipment and other police posts will be equipped within two weeks.
Addressing a press conference here today, John V. M. Shaw, Chief Secretary of the Palestine Government, disclosed that 899 terrorist suspects have been seized since the current outbreaks began. Of these, 279 were sent to Eritrea, and later transferred to the Sudan; 266 are still confined in the Latrun Detention Camp here and about 400 have been released.
