More than $7,000,000 has been secured to date for the construction of America’s first medical school under Jewish auspices, it was announced last night at the inaugural dinner of the Society of the Founders of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University.
The Society was formally established last night at the Waldorf-As###ria to perpetuate the association of the Founders and the members of their families with the College. More than 90 of the College’s 137 Founders and several hundred members of their immediate families arrived from all parts of the United States and Canada to participate in the Society’s inaugural ceremonies.
It was recalled that the late Professor Albert Einstein was the guest of honor at the first gathering of the Founders held at the time of the naming of the College on the occasion of his 74th birthday. Each Founder has contributed $25,000 or more to the $10,000,000 building fund program of the College of Medicine. The College, now nearing completion, will admit its first class this September.
Samuel Belkin, president of Yeshiva University, in a tribute to Prof. Einstein, said “this college will be a living monument, erected by American Jewry and the American people, to the memory of one of the greatest men of our era.”
