Turkey’s new Chief Rabbi, David Asseo, was invested today in elaborate ceremonies at the Main Synagogue of Istanbul. The ceremony was attended by Governor Refik Tulga, other Turkish officials, consular corps members, heads of the various churches and Jewish community representatives.
After receiving the golden chain carrying the Tablets of the Law of the Chief Rabbinate, Rabbi Asseo made his first address, pledging his efforts for the well-being of Turkish Jewry. He plans to visit top officials in Ankara to confer on pressing Jewish communal problems soon.
