A Conference on Jewish Identity and Identification, the first of its kind in Chile, has been held here under auspices of the Kehila Ashkenazi of Chile, the Circulo Israelita and the Association of Jewish Professionals of Chile.
The Conference was inaugurated by Dr. Uri Naor, Israeli Ambassador to Chile, Gil Sinay, president of the Representative Committee of the Jewish Community of Chile, Prof. Abraham Monk, director of the Latin American office of the American Jewish Committee, Rodolfo Berzutzky, president of the Zionist Federation of Chile, and Leon Gomberof, president of Circulo Israelita.
The goal was not to arrive at conclusions but rather to create interest in the subjects discussed and to stimulate future conferences. Leading Chilean professionals and university students attended the two-day conference at which the institutions, continuity and religious, educational and social problems of Chilean Jewry were evaluated. A speaker at the session was Michael Goldway of the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
