A gas-powered limb for amputees, the invention of a Haifa Technion scientist, has won three international awards at the 17th international inventoral exhibition in Brussels, it was announced here today. The limb, which is lighter than existing models, was developed by Dr. Dino Boussu, senior lecturer in mechanics at the Technion, working under a grant from the Lady Hoare Thalidomide Appeal Fund.
Dr. Boussu, 35, was born in Egypt and came to Israel in 1951. He is a graduate of the Technion where he also earned his doctorate. His limb is powered by a self-contained, re-chargeable gas cylinder and is capable of six different movements.
